The UQ SmartCampus is an initiative created by several final year students of the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE) under supervision of Dr Alex Pudmenzky (Senior lecturer, UQ School of ITEE). It is a demonstration of the possibilities that have become available through the creative use of the Internet of Things (IoT) together with long range wide area network (LoRaWAN) technology to provide UQ students, staff and visitors with an enhanced campus experience.
Under the mentorship of a subject expert from UQ Properties and Facilities, each student independently designed and implemented the hardware and software that forms the individual UQ SmartCampus IoT installations shown here.
These thesis projects have provided the students with an opportunity to prepare themselves for their working lives by sharpening their professional skills while experiencing working for a client to create a real world installation.
