Sanitary Bin

The Project

UQ SmartCampus is developing a smart device able to monitor the fill level of a sanitary bin. Cleaning Staff at UQ will soon be able to monitor the fill levels of sanitary bins online. The technology will enable them to reduce the time and resources spent servicing empty sanitary bins.

The WiFi-connected device sits inside the lid of a sanitary bin. A current fill level status is transmitted each time the lid is lifted. Staff can be notified when a bin is full, or when an item is preventing closure of the lid.

This feature enables efficient bin servicing and helps prevent the spread of waste around bathrooms. The smart monitoring device is an innovative way to improve the sustainability of waste management on campus.
